Social Capital Institute
About the Social Capital Institute
Since its establishment, the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF) has funded and promoted numerous projects to build social capital across various districts in Hong Kong. It has also developed diversified social capital development models with an evidence-based approach in response to the different needs of society.
Over the years, the CIIF has proven with its work that social capital exerts a positive impact on promoting community development. Such experiences are worth being further promoted and passed on so that social capital will produce a greater and wider effect. Therefore, the CIIF sets up the Social Capital Institute (SCI) on its 20th anniversary in 2022, which marks a new milestone for social capital development in Hong Kong.
Objectives of the SCI
- To consolidate, develop and pass on the experience and knowledge of building social capital in Hong Kong;
- To encourage different sectors to integrate the concept of social capital into their daily practice; and
- To facilitate experience exchange with the local, Mainland and international counterparts.
Key Tasks
- Knowledge consolidation: to systematically consolidate local and international information on social capital for interested parties to learn about the concept and latest development of social capital;
- Knowledge creation: to bring together stakeholders with interest and experience in developing social capital for sharing expertise and ideas, jointly creating more local models of social capital development and facilitating mutual exchanges;
- Knowledge transfer: to enhance the understanding of social capital among CIIF-funded project teams and individuals and organisations from different sectors showing interest in social capital development, while encouraging them to put the relevant knowledge into practice and integrate the same into their work and services.
